There are different departments in a company which bear different responsibilities. Similarly, there are different people in one’s life who hold different roles. Just like how a corp comms officer will suck at accounting and it will be a nightmare for an accountant to represent the company to the media, the duties assumed by different people in one’s life are more or less ‘specialised’ and usually not interchangeable. Take my life for example. P1 and P2 are irreplaceable as my BFFs. P3 is second to none as my soulmate. P4 is great as my roommate. P_s are exceptional as my classmates. P_s are outstanding as my fellow whiners. P_s are extraordinary as my shopping partners. If I continue adding on to this list, it will probably go on forever. But yeah, I’m sure you get the point! However fantastic these people are at playing their ‘assigned’ roles, I can never imagine any of them switching over to another position. Like seriously, it’d be disastrous if P1 or P2 ever became my roommate, I’d honestly just rather sleep at the corridor at night!

So I guess we should just try to find our roles in the lives of those important to us and, at the same time, be certain about the roles in our life held by those important to us. This is so as to avoid the risk of losing them forever if things ever turn ugly once there’s an unfitting switch in roles.
